N is for New

Malika Favre’s Kama Sutra Alphabet

Many of the new Monocle stories coming up here in the coming weeks saw first light or draft form on the now extinct tumblr blog of an author-friend. In the years that I felt I was failing to do Raziel’s more literary, more personal voice justice, Monocle’s smuttier darker drumbeat still occasionally surfaced, and, too much unable to get over myself, I wanted to put it somewhere far from this blog. Enter Cassie Andra. Their tumblr was thematically resonant, and they were amenable to post things from me as long as they had an image to go with them – and on tumblr there was no shortage of images. And sometimes it was the images that inspired the stories, or shorts or flashes. Cassie’s found another corner of the web for their images and stories, but now it’s my turn to offer a place for their words.

For the next few weeks, On Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays they’ll be posting The Wrong Alphabet – a series of their short stories and flash fiction with the conceit of titles that begin with each letter of the alphabet in turn. You’ll notice some themes familiar to this blog and shared by most of its authors and guests, but also some transgressive fiction that neither Will, nor, Ximena, nor I have done in abundance, these include things like cuckoldry and infidelity, and more fraught taboos of age differences, sexual awakenings, incestuous relationships, sometimes combined with themes of dubious- and non-consent. So, even regular readers of this blog will likely find something new and occasionally challenging in these entries.

It’s a bit of an experiment. This is new territory for Cassie and whether it continues or ends depends on how they feel about being on the blog for a while. – M

In their own words, here is Cassie’s own brief introduction:

I’m old enough to know better and not care. Vanilla on the outside. Vanilla through and through, to be honest, except for the mind. You don’t want to go there, but I’ll give you peeks. Be warned: erotica themes include standard fun, but also the taboo-est of the taboo. Every drop of it is, however, fantasy, and should be treated as such. – CA
