Since I have wonderful company on this very blog in doing NaPoWriMo, I’ve added that info to my titles to avoid confusion. Here is week two in its mixed bag of glory. –M
(8) The Lie of Skin
Grandfather’s skin lied.
Clear and clean and hiding a
mind broken by time.
Grandmother’s skin lied.
Wizened trojan horse hiding
God’s own whirlwind.
And my own skin lies.
You can’t see the spines and barbs
hidden underneath.
I’ve no trust of skin
So, my pretty, pretty thing,
Show me what’s beneath.
(9) Map
The map of the evening
takes a vastly different shape
whether the first thing I do
is take you by the hand
or by the wrist.
(10) Ass/Arse
Ass or arse?
I should’t parse
It doesn’t matter
we won’t natter
The sound most right
is what you make when I bite.
(11) Insufficient Magic
I’ve a magician’s cabinet
full of the best tricks
nimble fingers
misdirecting smiles
I can work miracles
with rabbits, and doves, and volunteers
but I’ve not yet succeeded
in making you appear.
(12) Up To It
Too often
language seems to fail desire
or worse, mock it
or mask it
in clumsy metaphors
It’s a hard admission
knowing it’s only my words
not up to the task
still I try with what I have
when beyond arm’s reach

Raz,
I love these, but I don’t understand what barbe means or barbes de ma barbe.
Though I usually shave first.
Paul.
I was being bilingual (attempting to play on words bilingually, at least). It means “barbs of my beard,” as ‘barbe’ is French for ‘beard’.
This week, my vote goes to The Lie Of Skin, and Identities. Thoroughly enjoying your #NaPoWriMo efforts, Raz. :)
