NaPoWriMo – Weeks 1 & 2

I also decided to try my hand at a poem a day, and to share them on the weekends (Raz and I have been on a similar wavelength lately, an interesting thing). More than once, workmates have seen me hastily scratching at the black patent leather journal I set aside for my attempts – poetry comes easier to me on paper as opposed to word processors. Consequently, I’ve had less time to dedicate to this challenge. I decided that if I wrote one poem a week that I wouldn’t be mortified to share, I’d be satisfied. These are they. – X

✥   ✥

poetry sometimes can’t be enjoyed the first time around
the words may be too sharp
their jagged edges might hurt your tongue
make you bleed
or they might be too subtle
seemingly tasteless as water

try again, and maybe the second time
or the third
or the fifth, you’ll wear those edges smooth
and the words will come alive
warm and soft as new flesh
straightforward and sweet as a spoonful of sugar

✥   ✥

My fingers caress the warm air around you reverently
My eyes glassy with tears
Lips moving in a silent prayer

 Be patient with me, love

Take it slow
I’m bitterly cold, so I fear I might crack or even break in your anxious hands
if you get too close

interestingly, four writers, four sets of roughly similar poems, yet they are all totally individual.
I can only say, I enjoy them.

Oh, oh! The second is exquisite!
