Waiting for Solstice

Not really erotica, but a bit of a love poem. Yeah, I’m sappy in the fall, apparently. –M

I used to fancy myself
a creature of the night
preferring shadowy corners
neon lit streets
dark starlit skies

Yet I found sunset
no matter how beautiful
to be the saddest of times
the dying light
an unutterable loss

The light of day
no matter how hot or cold
warmed the deepest part of me
I realized I had fallen in love
with the Sun

I grew to hate autumn
and its shortening days
theft of light
lengthening dark
sapping my spirits

The warmth of summer
became bittersweet
the longest day
became a harbinger
the beginning of an ending

Now I count the days
to winter solstice
this time of near hibernation
when I grit my teeth
and my soul holds its breath

The ice of winter
is strangely more bearable
each day I see more of her
minute by minute
my Sun slowly returns

I still enjoy the night
marvel at the stars
dance in sodium-lit streets
as long as she comes back
in the morning

  1. You utter the most lovely words.

As the sun rises to each new day there is yet another chance to leave behind her light
Warming the very cold that chills the darkest of night

Sing softly unto the ears of summer and never will she leave you
