Persistence of Vision

Persistence of vision
Afterimage, long after you’ve gone
Your inverse doppelganger lingers
Complimentary, light where you are dark
Burned into my retina

I wonder, if you return
The ghost picture I’ve kept
If it would shadow you,
hide you,
cancel you out

With memory’s beautiful perfection
chance and change
fortune’s capriciousness
I have to ask myself
If I really want to know

So
For now
Until I’m sure
Until you come back
I chase the lilacs.
