Lit

May 13, 2010

I once watched an airplane taking off at night into a low overcast.
The lowest billows glowed a faint orange, reflecting the city lights,
but the plane, its lights blazing, illuminated one spot bright white;
the spot it disappeared into a moment later, swallowed by the murk,
its light flaring and briefly making the cloud glow from within.

So, you, now.
Your body glowing a faint orange in the candlelight.
My eyes blaze, illuminating in my mind one bright spot;
the spot I will disappear into in one moment, swallowed by your heat,
our light flaring, making the two of us glow from within.

    Sometimes the unlikeliest image is exactly the right one to help us see. Beautiful.

    Beautiful parallel imagery. Masterfully done.

    Thanks City, Sue. I’ve had the airplane memory in my head for at least two decades. The other association was much more recent.
