In The Dark

Inthedark

Sandra closed and locked the bathroom door, sighed, and went to the mirror to touch up her makeup, grateful for the brief privacy of the small ‘extra’ bathroom next to the standard, multi-stalled ladies’ room. She was having an OK time, but was getting discouraged, losing the heart and purpose she had come with. Damn Phillip anyway.

Her two-year-long relationship with him had been going through a ‘rough spot’, as her married friends would call it. She snorted. She wasn’t sure which turbulence was worse – the fact that he had cheated on her or the almost dismissive way he apologized for it when he was caught. Sandra had though she loved Phillip, and that he loved her. Now nothing was certain.

She had left the apartment without telling Phillip where she was going; though she made sure he saw how she was dressed. She was in her black dancing dress. Its low, collar-less V neckline showed just a little more than proper for formal occasions. The elastic, satiny fabric hugged the swells of her breasts and hips, the seamless body flaring into a slightly frilly skirt, also too short for the most polite of company. She had no bra on that night – something else she made sure Phillip had seen. Delicate looking black three inch heels barley covered her feet and matched her tiny purse – just big enough for a compact, a lipstick, a key, a few bills, and a rolled up diaphragm. She slammed the apartment door behind her, shoes clicking, long fiery red hair streaming behind her as she strode purposefully down the hall. She rode the taxi alone, across town.

As I regularly say to Monocle: Damn, why didn’t I think of that?

Thank you very much Alice. Having read some of your stories (and needing to read more), it makes me very happy to know you liked it. This is actually one of my oldest finished stories, and a personal favorite. I’d thought that a blog might be a way to reach new readers, but I’m also pleased that it allows connection – or reconnection – to earlier readers as well!

And Will is right. We’ve been cursing like that for weeks now, it’s brilliant fun.

It seems so. Jumping into the blog world feels kind of like going straight for the deep end of the pool.

I loved the mysterious stranger theme! Excellently drawn to a thought provoking close, leaving the door open for more adventure. What an exciting “ride”!

*looks at you closely, eyes searching your hair for physical indications of your ability to manifest temptation, dark, pure and oh so sweet via the English language.*
(Yes, I stumbled here via Elust, I’m a newbie to your world *curtseys*)

Am positively entranced, as much as Sandra had to have been.
A small voice in my head has been niggling away at me however, saying that the stranger wasn’t quite human.
That may just be my imagination at work, but his words of such class and elegance are enough to entrap most of us; it wasn’t me being seduced but I felt myself falling…
Care you share any light on that note for me? :)

Very well written, I could see, hear and feel the story, scene after scene; methinks I’ll be popping back in here to dig around through the archives ;)

    Many thanks!

I enjoyed your reply to Raziel.

I wonder what it is about sex with strangers that appeals to so many? At any rate, responses like this inspire me to write my own story on the theme.

Thank you so much, Mystique. This stranger, as *I* envisioned him didn’t have anything supernatural about him. Foreign, perhaps, Of a different world than Sandra, almost certainly. The story was written from Sandra’s POV, so his mystery is heightened. He *could* be many, many things. Even she isn’t sure. What the reader brings to the story is their own unique perspective, and your take is wonderful.
It is really neat hearing how readers experience – or in habit – the characters of a story. It’s one of the coolest things for me.
And yes, please do come back. There is so much more to come!
